Nestled in the heart of the Chevreuse Valley, just about thirty kilometers southwest of Paris, the Dampierre-en-Yvelines Estate comes alive every spring as a grand open-air tableau. This year, with its newly revitalized gardens, the scenery promises to be absolutely enchanting.
The Spring Bloom Festival at Dampierre is shaping up to be the must-see event of Spring 2026 in the Yvelines department (78): this year, over 80,000 tulips were planted last autumn to adorn the grounds, offering a breathtaking display from late March to early May 2026. Be sure to mark your calendar for these two spectacular dates.
Keep in mind that the perennial plants are already established by mid-March and are just beginning to bloom. The flowering will continue gradually until early May, with blossoms slowly opening week after week.
The concept is straightforward and captivating: the estate takes advantage of spring’s energy to showcase a vibrant carpet of multicolored tulips. No need to search behind the castle—these flowerbeds extend beyond the large pond, into a more remote area away from the main building, near the recently restored pavilion. The floral arrangements blend seamlessly with the existing landscape, enhancing the viewpoints and riverbanks in a lively garden setting rather than a static display.
It's important to note that this first edition is also very much a trial run. The bad weather and heavy rains earlier this year have wiped out around a third of the bulbs, reducing the initial lushness of the bloom expected. The local wildlife, including deer and boars, also contributed to these losses. This project is therefore part of a continually evolving process, set to grow and develop over the coming years. That's all the more reason to visit now—to witness the beginning of something new. As a first edition, the estate is still getting its bearings and adjusting.
This seasonal program unfolds over several weeks, featuring themed events for both young and old. During a leisurely stroll, you'll find yourself wandering among glowing flowerbeds, with the silhouette of the Dampierre Castle serving as a stunning backdrop. Designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the same architect behind the Palace of Versailles, the castle is nestled within gardens crafted by André Le Nôtre. This rare jewel, classified as a Historical Monument, proves that it didn't need the arrival of spring to leave a lasting impression.
Two dates stand out during the Springtime events:
Aside from special event days, visitors are free to explore the 90 hectares of the Dampierre estate’s park and gardens at their own pace. They might be tempted by a pulled by American mules, rent a pedalo or electric cart to wander the paths leisurely, or hop onto a small boat for a tranquil moment on the pond. Kids will love the charming Albert’s farm and its adorable residents: Poitou donkeys, Alpine sheep, and bunnies... It’s a refreshing escape less than an hour from Paris, set within a grounds that also hosts a Carriage Museum and a wildlife discovery trail called the Dragonfly Path.
Plan your visit with the following prices: €10 for adults for free access to the park and gardens, €5 for children aged 6-17, and free for children under 6. Reduced rates are available for large families, jobseekers, students, and holders of the Pass Navigo Culture. The estate is open from Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on weekends, public holidays, and school vacations (Zone C), from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. All the details can be found on the estate's ticketing page.
Whether you're with family and kids, a history and garden enthusiast, a couple seeking a green escape in Île-de-France, or just someone eager to experience spring in all its glory—away from the crowded Parisian parks on weekends—this is the perfect outing for you.
If you’re a fan of springtime blooms in the region, two other events are well worth the visit: the Spring Plant Fair at Château de Saint-Jean de Beauregard in Essonne (April 10-12, 2026), featuring over 200 exhibitors, and the Esprit Jardin 2026 at Versailles, a free plant festival held at the château just a few kilometers away.
