Since 1761, À la Mère de Famille has represented the Parisian sweet tradition in all its splendor. Located on rue du Faubourg Montmartre, this historic establishment has seen the centuries go by without ever losing its soul: that of a temple to old-fashioned gourmandise, where chocolate, sweets and pastries tell a story of family, transmission and passion.
The first store opened in 1761, in a Paris still paved with cobblestones and bustling with horse-drawn carriages and small trades. The confectionery soon made a name for itself with its sugared almonds, fruit jellies, pralines and calissons, inspired by royal sweets. The store passed through several hands until it was bought by the Dolfi family in the 1980s, who restored it to its former glory.
Listed as a historic monument, the boutique at 35 rue du Faubourg Montmartre in the 9th arrondissement retains its antique woodwork, painted ceilings and Belle Époque charm. Today, the Maison embodies rigorous craftsmanship handed down through several generations. Chocolate is processed from bean to bar, with rigorous selection of origins and attention to every stage of production.
À la Mère de Famille perpetuates the recipes of yesteryear: soft caramels, marshmallows, orangettes, berlingots, nougats, marrons glacés, all made in its workshops in Chambray-lès-Tours and in three other artisanal production laboratories. Far from industrial production, each confection is designed to tell a story about the land, the season and the holiday. The company also offers a collection of tasting chocolates, praline boxes, spreads and exclusive limited-edition creations, always imbued with tradition and old-fashioned elegance.
What sets À la Mère de Famille apart is its attachment to the word"family". The current Dolfi generation, led by Étienne, Sophie, Steve, Jane and Jonathan, keep the original spirit of the House alive, between respect for the past and adaptation to today's tastes. They have opened several other boutiques in Paris, while preserving the DNA of the house: that of demanding, sincere craftsmanship.
With over 260 years of history, À la Mère de Famille is not only the oldest chocolate and confectionery shop in Paris, it's also a living gourmet monument, where time seems suspended. A sweet stop where you can rediscover the flavours of childhood, in a setting that has remained unchanged for generations.
