Head for Manhattn's Burgers, on rue Montorgueil, to sample the burgers of Belgian brothers Jérôme and Philippe Vandermeulen, who have already won over street-food fans across the border.

Belgians start making American burgers in Paris. It may seem like the beginning of a joke in poor taste, but that's exactly what's happening at Manhattn's Burgers, which opened a year ago on rue Montorgueil. Jérôme and Philippe Vandermeulen, two brothers with a passion for New York street-food - one of whom even spent two years working as a waffle-maker in New York - are behind this chain, which has already proved its worth on the other side of the border.

It's not easy, however, to stand out from the many burger restaurants in the capital. At Manhattn's Burgers, the decision was made to rely on well-sourced products - PDO cheeses, flame-grilled steaks made from grass-fed Irish Angus beef; brioche buns, moist but not too sweet, prepared according to a recipe from a bakery in Little Italy, New York's famous neighborhood.

On the menu, no fewer than 9 burger recipes, each more saucy than the last, starting with the Paname Cheeseburger (€13.80), which we've just tried, made with a carefully grilled Irish Angus beef steak (here, you don't choose the cooking method, we let ourselves be carried away by the good taste of the team, who achieve perfect cooking), AOC Reblochon cheese, caramelized onions, crispy bacon, chives and a mustard and honey mayonnaise in the purest American tradition.

But some will fall for the Gatsby burger (13.80€), the other big hit on the menu, with beef, Swiss Emmental, sautéed mushrooms, crispy bacon, salad and truffle mayonnaise; or the Brooklyn Falafel (12.40€), the vegetarian guarantee on the menu, with falafel in place of meat, fresh tzatziki, tomato tartar and spicy sauce.

To accompany these little beauties dripping with melted cheese, there's nothing like a good dose of Belgian fries (which we'd prefer to be even more Belgian; 4.5€) or sweet potato fries (5€) accompanied by a secret sauce, and a pint of draught beer, Belgian of course - Estaminet, Steenbrugge, Cornet. And to round things off, the more courageous can opt for a milkshake (7.5€) with vanilla, Oreo or speculoos, as these are reputedly ultra-gourmand Belgian products.
