Le Moulin de Flagy, restaurant and bucolic terrace in a former mill in Seine-et-Marne (77)

If the town of Flagy rings a bell, it's because it was selected in 2023 to be the only village in the Paris region to take part in the TV show"Le Village préféré des Français". Nestled in the heart of this charming village is a historic building that now serves as a Hotel-Restaurant: Le Moulin de Flagy.

Just an hour's drive from Paris, the Moulin de Flagy offers a green and gourmet escape for all those who wish to combine a bucolic getaway with a meal in a haven of peace. Formerly a 13th-century flour mill, the building was converted into a restaurant at the end of the 20th century. This space, steeped in history, has retained its charm of yesteryear while adopting a contemporary function.

The dining room, with its large bay windows, offers a breathtaking view of theOrvanne river below. In summer, the huge terrace, with its various seating areas for large groups, lets you take full advantage of the idyllic setting. The interior decor skilfully blends rustic elegance, creating a warm atmosphere, especially with its large fireplace.

Chef Stéphane Solivo, who took over the helm in 2019 after falling in love with the place, devotes himself and his team to home cooking that evolves with the seasons. He favors local produce, such as vegetables from Mr. Patron, a village market gardener, and honey from Flagy.

Among the starters, the terrine of duck confit with house cranberries and the perfect egg with truffle are must-tries, in addition to the very good oysters on offer. Main courses such as salmon ballotine with spinach and lamb confit with Flagy honey are carefully prepared to reflect the quality of the ingredients. Don't expect haute gastronomy - this isn't a Michelin-starred restaurant. That said, you'll find beautifully presented plates, generously garnished and homemade, perfect for a bistronomic meal, all while listening to the river flowing by. Menus are available at 32€ and 42€, offering a fine selection of dishes that should satiate the hungriest among you.

History has it that the mill once belonged to Blanche de Castille. It played a crucial role in the life of the village, providing its inhabitants with the flour they needed for centuries. Its paddle wheel, powered by theOrvanne river, bears witness to ancient milling techniques. Despite various historical setbacks, including a fire during the troubles of 1420, the mill has been preserved thanks to its isolation.

Transformed into a hotel-restaurant, the Moulin de Flagy has many charming features. Whether for a business lunch or a romantic dinner, this establishment offers a magical experience in a setting that has stood the test of time.

The Moulin de Flagy is located on Rue du Moulin, of course. You won't want to miss it anyway. With its pretty wash-house and garden, the frontage is magnificent. It's closed on Sunday evenings and Mondays, and opens to us from 12pm to 2pm and 7pm to 9:30pm. The house also offers accommodation packages with breakfast and dinner, perfect for weekend getaways.
