Le Savarin is the affordable, gourmet bistro on rue Navarin in Paris's 9th arrondissement. It couldn't be easier to remember! This new address from the Pantruchoise group, which includes such fine spots as Le Pantruche, Le Caillebotte, Le Coucou and Café Mirette, replaces Belle Maison, a restaurant that specialized in seafood. To broaden the horizons and choices of the menu, the house is changing, and we're not disappointed.
With its €23 lunchtime menu and dish of the day, this is a gourmet, home-made canteen for an affordable bistronomic experience. In the kitchen, Franck Baranger and his collaborators offer creative and daring bistro dishes that we love.
Here, forget about basic dishes that lack flavor and magic. At Le Savarin, we're all about freshness, beautiful cooking and generous plates, all with a touch of originality. While classics such as oeufs Meurettes and pot-au-feu are on the menu, they are enhanced with herbal juices, lively pickles and addictive reduced sauces. And with Poujauran's delicious bread, you won't leave a drop unturned.
The warm, spontaneous welcome and meticulous decor give this restaurant a soft, friendly atmosphere. Nestled on two floors, like a country house, with a pretty terrace in summer, this address is not short of space and can accommodate duos as well as families or groups.
So, you're wondering what's on the plate? With its new name and new positioning, Le Savarin no longer holds back. But don't worry, there's still plenty of fish on the menu, including best-sellers such as homemade cod roe tarama and oysters.
We start our meal with the famous Oeufs Meurette, as beautiful to look at as they are to taste. Simple and comforting, the Bouillon de poule with its grass-fed oil, country bread and smoked tea butter delights us.
We also recommend the Black Mullet Gravlax with its apple lentil salad and tangy sauce.
For the main courses, we opt for the menu of the day, which that day was duck filet with butternut purée, meat jus and oyster mushrooms. Cooked to a rosy perfection, with just-sautéed mushrooms, a creamy purée, cauliflower pickles and a full-bodied jus, we had a great time. My partner chooses the gourmet Vol-au-Vent de Lotte. This rather firm fish, poached to keep its softness, is ideal in this dish where the sauce enhances the whole.
We end the meal on a sweet note with two homemade desserts: the Ile flottante on a nest of decadent praline and the dark chocolate ganache with crème anglaise and gavotte, just the thing to finish on a high note.
In short, if you're looking for a Bistrot that's as good as it is creative, while remaining affordable, make a note of Le savarin in the 9th arrondissement. The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday from 12:30 to 14:00 and from 19:00 to 21:30, and on Sundays until 15:00.
