Finding yourself in the 13th arrondissement looking for a good Chinese or Vietnamese restaurant is a bit like finding yourself in Ali Baba's cave without knowing what to choose. It must be said that there is no shortage of choice. If you tend to always go to the same restaurants without trying anywhere else, and you don't necessarily know the best places to go, we can help you out. This time, head to Pho Bida Viet Nam, a must-visit restaurant for lovers of good Vietnamese food.
Pho Bida Viet Nam, is located at 36-38 rue Nationale Paris 13, a parallel of the famous avenue d'Ivry. As a result, it's perhaps a little less crowded than other restaurants. It's a popular address for an authentic pho or bo bun. Nestled between the Olympiades and Porte d'Ivry metro stations, this Vietnamese restaurant is renowned for its traditional cuisine and friendly atmosphere. Open every day except Monday evenings, it caters to those in search of typical Vietnamese flavors.
On our visit, we started with bánh cuốn, steamed ravioli filled with minced pork and black mushrooms (€7.50 for 4 pieces). The thin, supple dough melts in the mouth, giving way to a delicately seasoned filling. Generous and well-cooked, you'll have a great time.
As a main course, phở đặc biệt bò viên is a must-try. This completepho (€13.00 or €14.50 depending on size) features a clear, fragrant broth, topped with cooked beef, rare beef, tripe, tendon and beef dumplings. We've chosen a small version, which has already proved quite generous.
Of course, we also try the Bo bun with its egg rolls, which is not lacking in flavor (€13).
Lovers of spicier flavors will appreciate bún bò Huế, an imperial soup of spicy beef and pork (€13.00 or €14.50), served with or without pig's trotters. A must-try that we highly recommend. For a heartier dish, the cơm sườn bì chả (€15.00) combines rice, grilled pork loin, minced pork and Vietnamese pâté.
As for desserts, we try two Vietnamese specialties: sương sa hạt lựu, a three-color dessert combining water chestnuts, palm fruit and plant gelatin topped with coconut milk (€5.00), as well as chè bắp, a sweet made with corn and glutinous rice, also topped with coconut milk (€5.00). The perfect way to end a meal.
The restaurant extends over two rooms, offering a pleasant space for group dining. The warm, contemporary decor features works by local artists, adding a local, artistic touch to the dining experience. A successful contrast between tradition and modernity that reflects the spirit of the 13th arrondissement.
The service is fast and efficient, even at peak times, and the friendly atmosphere makes Pho Bida Viet Nam a popular address for lovers of Vietnamese cuisine. We still recommend arriving early or making a reservation, especially in the evening. Enjoy your meal and your trip to Vietnam!
