The first Heritage Days were held in France in 1984, on the initiative of the then Minister of Culture, Jack Lang. Forty years later, the event has become a popular European rendezvous. Over the course of a weekend, thousands of historic, artistic, cultural and political sites open their doors to the general public, enabling us to (re)discover these treasures of our heritage.
Every year in Paris and the Île-de-France region, (many) sites offer a host of events and visits. Museums, castles, ministries, churches, gardens and natural sites, swimming pools, historic monuments, department stores: everyone takes part in this great cultural celebration!
The next edition of the Heritage Days takes place on 19 and 20 September 2026. Most participating sites open their doors all weekend... But beware: some are only accessible on one of the two days! To help you plan, we’ve listed below the places that will be open exclusively on Saturday, 19 September.
Thanks to this selection, you'll be able to organize your weekend and see as many places as possible, on Saturday AND Sunday! Please note that many sites require advance booking: check the access conditions for each venue before your visit, to avoid disappointment.
