Every year, the same story plays out for millions of tax households in France. It’s time to file your 2025 income tax return, since the campaign kicked off on April 9, 2026. As a reminder, even for households with little or no income, all tax households must declare the income earned in 2025!
What about the calendar? It varies by department. Here are the dates you must not miss this year. Since April 9, you can begin filling out and validating your income tax return. For taxpayers living in departments 1 through 19, the deadline is May 21, 2026. If you reside in Zone 2 (departments 20 through 54), you must finalize your return by May 28. Finally, departments 55 to 976, including Paris, must file by June 4.
If you miss these deadlines, you could face a 10% rise in your tax bill, or even up to 20% if a formal demand is issued.
As the Public Service website notes, "the online declaration of income is mandatory if your main residence has internet access and you are able to file your return online". This declaration is made via the impots.gouv.fr website. For others, you can still use the paper form, to be returned by May 19.
Your income tax assessment will be available between July 24 and July 31, 2026.
