September is likely to be a complicated month for Parisians. Strikes and demonstrations mark the start of the 2025 social season in the Paris region. Force Ouvrière has issued a general notice period from September 1 to November 30, covering all public and private sectors, while several unions are calling for large-scale mobilizations. Ile-de-France users can expect major disruptions to their journeys, with two particularly sensitive dates likely to bring the capital region to a standstill, following the postponement of the cab demonstration originally scheduled for September 5.
The cab mobilization originally scheduled for September 5 in Paris and the Île-de-France region has been officially postponed. This decision was taken on August 27 by the interfederation following the announcement of Prime Minister François Bayrou's vote of confidence, scheduled for September 8 in Parliament.
In a press release relayed by franceinfo, the federations point out that "as long as there is uncertainty as to whether the government will remain in power or fall, there is no guarantee of having a legitimate political interlocutor capable of making commitments". The cab unions emphasize, however, that this postponement does not constitute an abandonment: "our demands remain intact, and the federations therefore call on the entire profession to remain mobilized".
The protest is still about the new rules for medical transport that will come into force in October 2025, with drivers denouncing a reform that could see them lose up to 30% of their sales, according to the FNDT.
The date of September 10 is the focus of concern, with a call to "block everything" emerging on social networks. Unlike traditional trade union movements, this one is not organized by the unions, and no strike notice specific to September 10 has initially been issued. However, several organizations have joined the call.
The CGT Cheminots, SNCF's largest union, called for "massive participation" in the strike on September 10. SUD-Rail was the first major SNCF union to join the strike. For the moment, neither the RATP nor the SNCF have officially communicated traffic forecasts for September 10, but calls are circulating for a work stoppage and the blocking of transport, schools and logistics platforms.
This mobilization is protesting against the 44 billion euros in savings planned in the Bayrou budget, including the abolition of two public holidays and the freezing of social benefits.
September 18 looks set to be a particularly disruptive day, with the eight French trade union confederations (CFDT, CGT, FO, CFE-CGC, CFTC, Unsa, FSU, Solidaires) calling for a "united and interprofessional" day of strikes and demonstrations.
At RATP, the four majority unions (CGT, FO, Unsa Mobilité and CFE-CGC) have joined the September 18 mobilization in a joint press release, calling for "a massive day of strikes and demonstrations". As a result, major disruptions are expected across the Paris metro, RER and bus network.
On the SNCF side, CFDT Cheminots is joining the call for mobilization on September 18, while Sud-Rail will decide in the coming weeks whether to participate. The CGT-Cheminot has not yet announced its position for this date.
On September 18, 2025, many pharmacies will close, due to a massive strike organized by the inter-union of pharmacists' organizations. This mobilization follows a government decree which reduces the commercial discounts that laboratories grant to pharmacies on generic drugs, from 40% to 30% from September, then 20% in 2027.
The intersyndicale is planning to close pharmacies on September 18, and then "every Saturday from September 27". Pharmacists are denouncing this measure, which represents a third of their margin and could weaken the economy of pharmacies, particularly in rural areas.
The 38 AP-HP establishments are also preparing for a major industrial action. Four major unions - CGT, FO, CFTC and UNSA - representing more than 6 out of 10 employees, are calling for general assemblies in all departments from August 25, 2025.
