The strike on September 18, 2025 promises to be a particularly complicated day for motorists in the Paris region. In and around the capital, road blockades promise to disrupt traffic on major routes, including the Paris ring road and major freeways such as theA1, A3 and A6. Eight unions are organizing this inter-professional mobilization against budgetary austerity measures, while the "Bloquons tout" movement is preparing its own blockade actions.
This September 18 mobilization comes eight days after the actions of September 10, which had already disrupted traffic in the Paris region. Sixty-five people were arrested in the Paris region, according to the Prefecture de Police, demonstrating the authorities' determination to keep traffic flowing smoothly. This time, activists in the "Bloquons tout" movement intend to step up their actions, specifically targeting road infrastructures.
The"Bloquons tout" movement is preparing a new series of road blockades to coincide with the inter-professional strike. After targeting the gates of the Paris ring road on September 10, the activists intend to step up their actions this Thursday. The 38 gateways to the capital are prime targets for the demonstrators.
During the previous mobilization, roadblocks were set up as early as 7 a.m. at the gates of Montreuil, Clignancourt, la Chapelle, Bagnolet and d'Italie. Strategies are becoming clearer for this new day of action. Activists are planning to block the ring road during rush hour: "Why don't we block the ring road at 5pm when there are lots of cars?" asked one activist at a preparatory meeting.
The main freeways in the Paris region are not spared these threats of disruption. The A1, A3 and A6 freeways are also under particular scrutiny, especially where they connect with the Paris ring road. These strategic routes for access to Paris from the provinces are therefore likely to experience major slowdowns.
The strike on September 18, 2025 is the result of a call by an intersyndicale grouping eight union confederations: CFDT, CGT, Force Ouvrière, CFE-CGC, CFTC,Unsa, FSU and Solidaires. The intersyndicale is coordinating some 200 rallies across France to protest against the 43.8 billion euros in savings planned in the government budget.
The "Bloquons tout" movement is not stopping after the September 10 mobilization, and intends to continue its actions during the inter-professional strike of September 18, 2025, which promises to be massive in the capital and Île-de-France. Parisian activists have prepared for this new stage in their protest against the François Bayrou government's austerity measures.
This convergence between traditional trade unions and spontaneous citizens' movements is creating a cocktail of disruption unprecedented since the September 10 mobilization, which brought together 200,000 people in France.
For motorists in the Paris region, there are several tools available to keep track of road conditions in real time. Users can consult real-time information on the official websites of RATP and SNCF Connect for transport conditions, and Sytadin for road traffic.
The Préfecture de Police is maintaining the same heightened security measures as during the previous mobilization. The forces of law and order are preparing to intervene rapidly to disperse any attempted blockades, particularly during rush hour. Motorists are invited to plan alternative routes and avoid non-essential travel during this day of mobilization.
In addition to the roads, this strike is also having a massive impact on public transport in the Paris region, with disruptions expected on the metro, RER and Transilien lines, as well as in the air transport sector at Roissy and Orly airports. It promises to be a particularly complicated day for all modes of transport in the Paris region.
