ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! From June 2, 2025, any journey not validated with a Navigo pass will expose you to a fine of €70 on the metro or RER (compared with €35 at present), and €15 on buses or streetcars (compared with €5). RATP has confirmed this increase in a press release, stating that the aim is to reinforce the effectiveness of the fight against fraud. From now on, the fare for a non-validated Navigo ticket will be aligned with that applied to users without a ticket, previously capped at €50.
RATP justifies this measure by a desire to dissuade minor frauds, in particular deliberately forgetting to validate. "The fixed-rate fine for immediate payment is €70," says the press release, compared with €35 until June 1. In the case of deferred payment, the amount will rise to €120, then to €180 after 90 days.
Until now, the fine for an unvalidated Navigo varied according to the mode of transport: €5 for buses and streetcars, €35 for the metro and RER. From now on, these amounts will be increased to €15 and €70 respectively, partially standardizing the rules and reinforcing their severity.
This is one of the points most criticized by users on social networks. The RATP press release does not specify the procedure in the event of faulty validators. Do passengers have to provide proof of the fault? Will they still be penalized? We advise you to take proof of malfunction just in case, while waiting for RATP to get back to you.
Since January 1, 2025, the monthly Navigo pass has cost €88.80. With a fine now set at €70, the penalty for simply forgetting to validate represents almost 80% of the cost of the monthly pass. This sends out a strong signal to users, but could also penalize those who are absent-minded or victims of technical malfunctions.
So if you don't want to be fined, validate!
