Calling all creative minds, lovers of fine materials and compulsive handymen! From March 13 to May 18, 2025, Galerie du 19M rolls out the (embroidered) red carpet for Ornementa, an immersive, participatory experience where you become the artisan. Free of charge and with or without a reservation (subject to availability), this monumental workshop invites young and old alike to get their hands dirty and explore the behind-the-scenes world of Métiers d'art.
Ornementa is part of a titanic project orchestrated by Studio MTX and the Maisons d'art du 19M, in resonance with the metamorphosis of the Grand Palais, supported by Chanel. The centerpiece of this transformation? A spectacular 15 x 8-metre curtain, designed to cover the large bay window separating the Nave from the central square. This textile work will be unveiled in June 2025, when the building is fully opened.
But why remain a spectator when you can put your hand to the needle? Galerie du 19M invites the public - schoolchildren, families and enthusiasts alike - to weave their own story by designing a monumental second curtain, echoing this masterful work. It's the perfect opportunity to brush up on the skills that make haute couture workshops shine.
Experiment, explore, feel... Ornementa will be punctuated by a playful program, where gesture and material will come to life in a dreamlike and colorful journey, designed by Studio GGSV (behind the Café du 19M decor):
Since its opening in January 2022, the Galerie du 19M has established itself as a lively, open-air workshop where exceptional skills are passed on with passion. With Ornementa, we've come full circle: here, the public becomes artisans. Ready, set, create!
