She is a distinctive artist who has built a universe where strong women are front and center, where lines are bold, colors bright, and the subjects... sometimes perplexing. Camille Vivier is a captivating French photographer and a leading figure in contemporary art. She is at the heart of a major retrospective—her first—presented at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie from June 10 to September 13, 2026.
In this eponymous show, Camille Vivier presents several series and photographic projects developed over the last two decades. Straddling fashion photography and artistic photography, between still lifes and living bodies, Vivier's body of work never ceases to surprise. The artist plays with contrasts and opposites to forge narratives and complex identities.
Fascinated by the bodies and female figures, Camille Vivier creates numerous portraits that can be at once sensual, troubling, enigmatic, poetic... The photographer brings together a wealth of cultural references in her compositions, drawing on both a Fine Arts heritage and the worlds of pop culture and underground art. With these portraits, the artist redefines feminine identities and broadens the realm of possibility by presenting bodies that defy conventions.
MEP offers a chronological itinerary, letting us trace the artist's evolution, her recurring themes and favored subjects. In total, nearly a hundred photographs are gathered for the occasion, some works created especially for this exhibition.
Female nudes, still lifes, animals, cinema, female bodybuilders, puppets, sculptures: across her series, she unveils an ever-surprising universe — symbolic, at times strange. Camille Vivier finds a distinct beauty in fields that can be quite unexpected, widening her references and her artistic scope by seeking her subjects beyond the usual horizons.
An intriguing artist to discover or rediscover this summer at the MEP!
