Yann Menguy, who you may have seen on "Qui sera le prochain grand pâtissier" or at the Michalak Masterclass, has opened his own patisserie in the 18th arrondissement. Somewhere between a patisserie and a coffee shop, the place aims to be convivial and gourmet. On the menu: original, seasonal pastries, chocolate, spreads, mueslis and homemade churned butter in a variety of flavors. Permanently closed.

If Yann Menguy 's face looks familiar, you've probably drooled over his superb creations on"Qui sera le prochain meilleur pâtissier". Christophe Michalak, aware of the young pastry chef's qualities, recruited him in 2013 to join his Michalak Masterclass (his cooking workshop). Perhaps you've taken advantage of a lesson given by this talented pastry chef.

After a spell at Ladurée, Yann Menguy, like his counterpart Yann Couvreur, decided to take the plunge and open his own patisserie.

Opened since late September 2016 in the heart of Rue Marcadet, the concept was intended to be innovative. Indeed, Yann Manguy wanted to make a big difference between French Haute Pâtisserie, with all its traditions, and the coffee shop and its legendary conviviality. A perfect marriage for lovers of fine pastries and fine coffees with a New York ambience.

For the setting, he called on young Nantes-based decorator Marguerite Quéinnec. Bright, raw concrete, antique mirrors found at the Saint-Ouen flea market, a laboratory in plain sight, a small "chill" area for on-site tasting, a home-like atmosphere with background music...

Yann Menguy is accompanied on site by another pastry chef and a barista.

The patisserie program includes individual pastries to choose from a variety of 5 choices, ranging from lemon yuzu at 4.50€ to honey at 6€. Ephemeral seasonal pastries and a choice of 3 entremets to share between 4 and 6 people.

A little originality: the place is launching its own homemade barrato butter. That's right, barrato butter made on the premises, available in a variety of flavors. Here's the vanilla version that seduced our sandwiches.

Go for the vanilla tart combining smoked Madagascar vanilla and pecan nuts. Opt for the irresistible chocolate mousse, just like at home, or for the signature dessert called "La Goutte d'Or". A spiral-shaped dessert combining chocolate and buckwheat (crunchy chocolate cookie with buckwheat and roasted hazelnuts, 64% chocolate cream, creamy milky chantilly).

Unless, of course,"Le Miel" catches your eye. This entremet combines fromage blanc mousse, honey compote, banana and lime to delight your palate.

You'll also find spreads, chocolates and mueslis made on the premises. From morning to night... everyone can enjoy chocolates, pastries and drinks on the spot or take them away. At La Goutte d'Or, Yann Menguy offers chocolate bars filled with crunchy praline, 70% fleur de sel almonds or 46% fleur de sel hazelnuts, as well as Dulcey fleur de sel pecan nuts...

Viennoiseries include a flaky fleur de sel brioche, a crisp brioche with Gianduja filling, cakes (chocolate, Banana Bread Cinnamon), hazelnut and peanut spreads, as well as maple syrup mueslis, raspberry mueslis and cookies... for breakfast or a snack break.

And to accompany these sweet treats, there's nothing like a cup of tea or coffee to go. The barista offers a selection of organic teas from Bonthé, which has been in the area for 15 years. The coffee comes from CAFÉ LOMI, 2 steps away. There's a choice of 2 specific ranges, filter or espresso, which change every month. Unless you prefer fresh juices or creamy hot chocolate.

Why not take a stroll through this new gourmet living space?
