Apalace with contemporary accents, the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme opened in 2002 on the rue de la Paix, halfway between the Place Vendôme and the Opéra, after a profound transformation of a historic real estate complex opened in place of a site formerly occupied by the Paquin haute couture house, which had a storefront there in the early 20ᵉ century.
In 2011, it was awarded the prestigious distinction of palace. Discover the little secrets of this establishment, one of the 12 palaces in the City of Light.
Before becoming a hotel, the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme building was home to the Paquin fashion house. Founded in 1891 by Jeanne Paquin, this fashion house occupied numbers 3 and 5 rue de la Paix and was a flagship of Parisian style, dressing elegant women from all over Europe.
When the Paquin house declined in the 1950s, the building changed vocation several times, passing through commercial and administrative uses. In 1996, the Hyatt Group decided to revive the site as a hotel, entrusting the design to the architectural firm Ed Tuttle. The project respects the listed façade while transforming the interior into a luxury hotel. The Park Hyatt officially opened in August 2002 with 155 rooms, including 44 suites, positioning itself as a "luxury residence".
In the early years, hotel management refined this positioning: the Pur' restaurant was inaugurated on opening day, with chef Jean-François Rouquette, who was awarded a Michelin star shortly afterwards. In 2009, the hotel was officially awarded 5 stars, and in 2011 joined the select circle of French palaces. The Park Hyatt is also distinguished by its commitment tocontemporary art, with numerous artists exhibited in its public spaces, giving the establishment a permanent gallery dimension.
In the interior spaces, Ed Tuttle plays with noble materials: softly hued marbles, dark woods, matte lacquers, refined fabrics and signature lighting fixtures. The hotel is designed as a series of apartments, each room personalized, with attention paid to lighting, textures and comfort.
The lobby, designed as a home salon, welcomes visitors without the formalities of a large, imposing hall, and the hotel opens onto two interior courtyards (one covered, the other open-air) creating a winter garden effect in Parisian stone. The basement spa offers a sanctuary with treatment room, hammam and swimming pool.
Since its foundation, the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme has stood out for its modern interpretation of the palace concept, without ostentation or excessive nostalgia, but with a refined, comfortable signature, facing Place Vendôme and close to the major jewelry workshops in the area.
