Biglove Caffè: the latest addition to the Big Mamma team

Biglove Caffè, the newest member of the Big Mamma crew, has set up shop on Rue Debeylleme in the Haut-Marais. Here you’ll of course find the same charm as its older siblings: its pretty little crockery, warm Italian waiters, and above all, delicious dishes from the Boot — with the added bonus of a brunch served all day long.

In the roundup of Parisian restaurants and cafés, I earmark the baby of the Big Mamma family: what a find! Even before stepping through the doors of Biglove Caffè, we knew we wouldn’t leave disappointed by this dinner.

Following East Mamma, Ober Mamma and Mamma Primi, Biglove has what it takes to win over fans of Italian cuisine: an Italian cafe open almost all day, a brunch every day option, and, of course, dishes that live up to its predecessors—with a touch of originality in the pizza dough, now gluten-free (but still deliciosa).

What sets Biglove Caffè apart is also its decor and atmosphere. The younger branch sticks with the open kitchen and the conviviality of its elder siblings, but the restaurant walls are lined with wooden shelves that overflow with condiments, packets of dried fruit, spirits and preserves—an upscale, grocery-store vibe.

A long, narrow dining room, thrifted furnishings, a long counter and orange leather banquettes — not to mention the sausages and the giant slabs of meat perched above the storefront window. In short, a great spot for food-loving locals and a cosy cafe vibe!

For this dinner, we let ourselves be guided by the servers with irresistible accents, who first suggest a bottle of Valpolicella red to pair with our dishes: a generously topped burrata pizza (€16.50) and a to-die-for Bolognese lasagna (€14). Bonissimo!

After such a meal, we’re so full that even the blueberry pancakes everyone keeps talking about will have to wait until our next visit. The same goes for the Molise black-truffle pasta (€18), whose neighbor’s plate aroma had us salivating.

The only catch is that reservations are still not possible. The same system as other places: they call you when your turn arrives. A meal at Biglove Caffè is earned, but it’s absolutely worth it.
