Recently inaugurated on the corner of rue Temple and rue Chapon, the restaurant at theExperimental Marais, the5-star Experimentalhotel in the heart of the haut-Marais, has found its way to the taste buds of gourmets.
With a menu signed by chef Mélanie Serre that blends French qualities with New York traditions, Temple & Chapon is now also the place to go for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
In the elegant setting of its cathedral room with glass ceiling, with the jungle option behind large bay windows for even more charm and a change of scenery, the restaurant knows how to make itself desired. Comfortably seated on plump banquettes, we take a look at the brunch, which is à la carte rather than buffet-style.
Here, you'll find the (already) classic dishes that have made our reputation, such as the lobster roll (€29), alongside offerings for early risers on weekends, but not only - brunch is served from 12pm to 3pm. Start the day with a juice, either non-alcoholic(detox juices and the like) or alcoholic (okay, it's a Bloody Mary loaded with Tabasco; 17€) and a hot drink - Americano, latte, cappuccino, etc.
Then it's on to the classic à la carte menu, with starters, main courses and desserts. The scotch egg (13€) has nothing to envy of its London comparses, the meat is juicy and we dip it happily in a homemade barbecue sauce that has, obviously, nothing to do with industrial sauces; the tacos (soft shell, please!) with crispy shrimp spiked with pickles and a dash of lime (14€) kick off the festivities just as well.
Eggs Benedict with salmon (19€) are a lemony treat, and the pancakes can be enjoyed both sweet (topped with banana, cream cheese and salted butter caramel; 13€) and savory, with grilled bacon and aged cheddar (18€). But if you're more concerned about your waistline, you'll prefer the NYC bagel or theavocado toast; there's no doubt about it, this is the US!
The same Anglo-Saxon references can be found in the desserts, with the coconut-passion milkshake, the XL cookie and, of course, the pecan tart topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (15€), which was clearly winking at us. Alas, we had no room to invite her to our table!
