With Notre-Dame as backdrop, this summer terrace takes over a Parisian bridge – reviews & photos

Facing Notre-Dame, La Rôtisserie d’Argent unfurls its checked tablecloths and sets up its summer summer spot along the Quai de la Tournelle. With a view of the Seine, a Parisian bistro vibe and dishes by Romuald Sinnan: here the panorama grabs the eye, but the cooking is equally worthy of attention.

At first glance, the red-and-white checkered tablecloths might feed the stereotype of Paris. You can already picture the touristy terrace, the laminated menu, and the view billed at a premium. Yet, as soon as you sit down at La Rôtisserie d’Argent, the script takes a markedly different turn. Here, the postcard Paris truly exists—and, good news, it also knows how to cook!

Located on the Pont de la Tournelle, just steps from the Tour d’Argent, this little-known terrace lines up a handful of tables right on the bridge, separated from the rest of the sidewalk by flower boxes. On the far side, the Seine, the Île de la Cité and Notre-Dame dominate the view. A few boats drift through the frame, the light glints on the water, and the whole scene verges on movie-set territory. You can’t help but think of a scene from Emily in Paris, but here the dish actually carries more weight than the storyline.

True luxury, after all, isn’t just about looks. At lunch, the street is fairly quiet and passersby are few. No shouty chorus of horns or scooters tearing by: you can really enjoy the scenery, up close to the Seine. The venue presents this terrace as Paris’s only one laid out in such a configuration on a bridge. Absolute verification may be hard, but one thing is certain: this kind of table doesn’t crowd the quays! Two or three large parasols cast welcome shade when the sun is high. Exposed to the breeze, they can, however, lose a bit of their balance. Better keep an eye on your glass when Éole joins the table.

The terrace changes its face as the day goes on. At noon, the vibe is calmer and more laid-back, with fewer people and a clear view of Notre-Dame. At golden hour, the decor takes on color: the light softens, the sky blushes and the tables fill up. For a more lively atmosphere, it’s best to reserve in the evening. To enjoy the panorama without too many neighbours, lunch remains the right window. In both cases, the reservation is recommended, especially when the weather is nice. The more spontaneous can also try their luck: the team seats guests according to availability.

In the kitchen, chef Romuald Sinnan revisits the house’s great classics without dressing them up. The cooking stays accessible, generous and sufficiently refined to avoid clichés. The tomato carpaccio and burrata is a prime example. The plate looks simple, but the pairing works beautifully—the delicate, sweet tomato slices, the slightly bolder tapenade, and the creamy burrata.
The egg mayonnaise, crowned world champion in 2022, comes in three half-eggs. The doneness is precise, the yolk stays velvety, and the hand-whipped mayonnaise is brought to life with mustard seeds and mustard leaves. All rests on a bed of potato salad. It isn’t a revolution at the counter, but a neater, finer, and technically very precise take on the classic bistro dish.

The house specialty, a roasted free-range chicken served with mashed potatoes, comes in a generous portion. The skin is nicely browned, the house-made sauce is flavorful, and the mashed potatoes are rich with butter without becoming cloying. Drizzled with poultry jus, it typically disappears from the plate quickly. The chicken meat, firmer than that of industrial poultry, can, however, surprise some diners or even feel a bit dry to certain palates. The house explains this by its outdoor farming: a bird that lived longer and moved about more develops a denser texture and a more pronounced flavor. This choice will likely divide those who crave melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and those who prefer meat with more character.

Lighter, the roasted cod is served with a purée of artichokes, glazed carrots and a piquillo pepper coulis. The plate is very colorful, the fish flesh is pearl-like, the carrots are crisp, and the overall dish deftly balances sweetness, freshness and textures.

The dessert deserves to be given a little more room. The floating island, one of the house’s signatures, arrives in a generously sized portion. Its texture is creamy, indulgent, yet light on the palate, and it quite earns its name.
Smaller, the pavlova with red berries is no less crafted. Its meringue crackles under the spoon before revealing a soft, melt-in-the-mouth center. A dessert best reserved for those with a real sweet tooth.

Being close to the Tour d’Argent might lead you to expect a stuffy atmosphere. It couldn’t be farther from the truth. Jérémy, the manager of La Rôtisserie d’Argent, welcomes guests with a smile and a few jokes he guards like a recipe. The service is attentive and friendly, with a dash of good-natured banter, all while staying professional.

La Rôtisserie d’Argent serves up the Parisian cliché without tipping into caricature. For a quieter scene, go for lunch. For sunset and livelier tables, book in the evening. As for visitors who just want to raise a glass in front of Notre-Dame, the few high tables tucked away in a corner offer a nice alternative.

A terrace with a view... and great flavor!
