Times are tough, that’s a fact, so if you’re looking for a cheap round-trip to Italy, here’s a good option: La Lupa (formerly known as Neuvième Cru), a charming small Italian restaurant offering transalpine specialties at affordable prices. Located on Rue Richer — a lively street in the heart of Paris known for its great eateries (Colère, Ardent, L’Office, Bien Élevé, and many more), La Lupa is primarily a family affair.
Tucked away behind this unassuming yet charming spot are the Hamour brothers — Yanis in the dining room and Zahir in the kitchen — two self-taught chefs who have been immersed in the culinary world for around a decade. With its
On the à la carte menu, there's no room for creative follies, just a menu of great Italian classics, prepared with products sourced directly from the Botte region. Rigatoni alla carbornara prepared according to the rules of the art (guanciale, pecorino romano, egg, pepper, period), lasagne alla bolognese, bruschetta (we'll turn a blind eye to the tomatoes in November), pumpkin velouté and focaccia croutons... and to finish, of course, a slice of tiramisu.
But the big plus here is definitely the prices! For lunch, expect to pay €16 for a main course, €19 for a starter/main course or main course/dessert, and €22 for a starter/main course/dessert, even including coffee. It's hard to beat that these days. For dinner, as the menu lengthens and the lights dim, the restaurant adds a number of new dishes, all at reasonable prices.
An organic and natural wine list, as well as ritual cocktails and sodas, complete this sunny lunch on the other side of the Alps.
