Rue Saint-Charles, in the 15th arrondissement, Maison Didon is one of those addresses you just love to visit. Firstly, for the warm welcome you receive, but above all, for the excellent menu. Created in the spring of 2024 by Mohamed and Salha, a Tunisian couple who have lived in Paris for many years (along with their partner Slah), Maison Didon revisits Tunisian classics, from couscous and mloukhiya to bricks and méchoui.
"My wife - Salha, editor's note - had been wanting to set up a Tunisian restaurant for some time," says Mohamed, noting that "Tunisian cuisine is not very well represented in Paris". So it was she who came up with the menu for Maison Didon once the project was up and running, featuring the country's specialities. On the menu? Minced meat keftas with a spicy tomato sauce for starters, the inevitable fried tuna and caper bricks (with homemade bricks dough), mechouia salad (wood-grilled vegetables, tuna and hard-boiled eggs) and Tunisian tajine, cooked like an omelette.
For the main course, go for the octopus couscous (if it's on the menu) or one of the fish couscous dishes (served with a very good homemade harissa), which are highly aromatic, or for a generous portion of fell (small pasta dishes found only in Tunisia) served with chicken, lamb or fish. Here, fans of mloukheya will be well catered for, as this meat stew simmered for 6 to 7 hours in an oily corte powder sauce is one of Maison Didon's bestsellers. " The special thing about our mloukheya is that the cortea used to prepare it grows in a field belonging to my grandparents", says Mohamed, "now it's my uncle who takes care of the crops, dries the cortea and sends it to us for Maison Didon". And let's not forget the wood-fired grills (méchoui) or meat couscous.
As an accompaniment, go for the particularly refreshing homemade lemonade, and for dessert, don't miss the assida Zgougou, a pastry made with Aleppo pine and orange blossom, accompanied by mint and pine nut tea!
All in all, Maison Didon offers heartfelt cuisine, prepared with the utmost generosity and lovingly simmered under the watchful eye of the chef and Salha... We highly recommend this wonderful address, perfect for lovers of Maghrebian cuisine or the curious who wish to discover Tunisian cuisine, which is ultimately little represented on the Parisian culinary scene.
At Maison Didon, you're welcomed as if you were at home, served quickly and with a smile... It's a local experience that Mohamed, Salha and their entire team take care to maintain and offer every day. The restaurant also offers on-site service, takeaway and delivery.
A great address to discover in the Saint-Charles district!
