The Les Halles shopping center in Châtelet closes its doors this Wednesday, September 10, 2025, as tensions escalate in the Paris neighborhood and the day is marked by rallies and demonstrations by the "Bloquons Tout" movement.

In the heart of Paris, the Forum des Halles can be recognized from afar by its impressive canopy. Carved deep into the center of the capital, this shopping mall is one of the largest in Europe, and stands where the Halles market once stood, nicknamed the belly of Paris and now located in Rungis. Over the centuries, shopkeepers' stalls have given way to the modern stores where today's shopping enthusiasts gather: this Parisian district retains its bustling activity. In all, it covers no less than 90,000m2, and its construction earned it the nickname "Trou des Halles".

As you'll have gathered, the Forum des Halles is one of the capital's best-known shopping venues, and is usually packed to the rafters. However, there are times when the mall is forced to close its doors for exceptional reasons, due to force majeure.

This Wednesday, September 10, 2025, several rallies and demonstrations are taking place, notably in Paris as part of the "Bloquons Tout" movement. In the afternoon, tensions escalated in the Châtelet area, and the Forum des Halles decided to exceptionally close its doors in response to the situation , according to BFM.
