In Paris and the Île-de-France region, trail running is attracting more and more runners who want to get off the pavement without straying too far from the capital. Although the region does not have any high peaks, it offers a wide variety of terrain: forests, valleys, nature parks, and the banks of the Seine are ideal for gently introducing yourself to nature running or challenging yourself with more demanding courses.
Trail running, or nature running, is a running discipline practiced in natural environments, on paths, forest trails, country lanes, or mountain trails—unlike urban running, which takes place on roads. The goal is not only speed, but also pushing oneself, managing effort on varied terrain, and enjoying the pleasure of running in nature.
Distances can range from a few kilometers for discovery trails to several dozen or even hundreds of kilometers for ultra-trails. The courses often include elevation changes, climbs, descents, mud, or technical passages, requiring good physical condition and a strong mind. Accessible to all with a minimum of training, trail running appeals for its conviviality and spirit of adventure.
While the region has iconic trails such asthe Eco'Trail, those who prefer more intimate formats are spoiled for choice, as numerous clubs and associations organize village trails, night races, and nature outings in the forests of Fontainebleau, Meudon, and Rambouillet throughout the year.
