In Paris, while it may not yet rival Rio, there's still plenty to be proud of with vibrant carnivals that tirelessly grow more spectacular and lively each year. These carnivals are often a time for celebration—filled with singing and music—but more than that, they’re the perfect occasion to dress up, toss confetti, and gather around a colorful parade! However, be aware that since 2026, the Paris Carnival and the Women’s Carnival are no longer part of the program, due to lack of funding.
In addition to carnivals, Paris also vibrates to the rhythm of wild parades, during which Parisians and tourists in the mood to party can sway to the beat as they criss-cross the streets of the capital, following floats with specific themes. As you make your way along these parades, you'll discover different atmospheres as the high-spirited participants put on their show.
The leading duo of these festive events are undoubtedly the Techno Parade and the Marche des Fiertés. The latter, formerly known as Gay Pride, is an opportunity to celebrate love in all its forms in a spirit of unity, while showing support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
It's also impossible to overlook the fact that Paris is a cosmopolitan capital where cultures from all over the world come together. From Ganesh celebrations to Chinese New Year parades and St. Patrick's Day, it's possible to travel to the four corners of the globe without leaving the City of Light, discovering these colorful events and immersing yourself in traditions from other parts of the world.
It's an opportunity to learn about the history, beliefs and legends that give meaning to these resplendent festivities. Who knows, it might even inspire you on your future travels?
