This year, a notable number of restaurants have lost one or more stars. As the Michelin Guide prepares to reveal its 2026 rankings on March 16th, there’s likely to be lots of excitement among chefs—and also among pastry chefs. The renowned Red Guide has stripped 44 establishments across France of one or more macarons, including 10 in Paris and the Île-de-France region.
Once again this year, several restaurants have lost one or more stars due to the departure of the head chef, a change in direction, a sale or simply the closure of the establishment. But nothing is ever set in stone, and it’s highly likely that the other downgraded restaurants, those that lost a Michelin star due to a decline in culinary standards, will do everything they can to earn back that coveted accolade.
The 2026 Michelin downgrades in Paris and Île-de-France affect restaurants that previously boasted one, two, and even three stars! It's important to note that these establishments are not closed; they are simply downgraded to a basic recommendation in the Michelin guide.
Explore the restaurants that have been downgraded in the 2026 Michelin Guide, in Paris, Île-de-France, and across France.
