We did not see it coming… “Orphan” – Jaume Collet-Serra’s flawless 2009 horror movie – get a sequel. Or rather a prequel for “Orphan: First Kill” – out on August 17, 2022, in France – tells the origins of this bone-chilling character.
Remember, in 2009, horror movie fans were introduced to the blood-curdling Esther, a 33-year-old woman who pretended to be a 9-year-old orphan and about to ruin the life of her adoptive family. In 2022, “Orphan: First Kill” offers us to discover Esther’s past.
Although actress Isabelle Fuhrman – 12 years old for the first movie – reprises her role as Esther at 25 years old, she is (almost) the only original “Orphan” team member to continue the adventure in “Orphan: First Kill”.
As for the director, no more Jaume Collet-Serra (releasing Black Adam on October 19), but William Brent Bell specialized in horror movie who already released Stay Alive (2006), The Devil Inside (2012), The Boy (2016) and Brahms: The Boy II (2020). As for the scriptwriters of the first installment, Alex Mace and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick give way to David Coggeshall (the Scream series on Netflix) to produce the movie.
In “Orphan: First Kill”, Isabelle Fuhrman plays opposite American Julia Stiles (Dragons: The Nine Realms, Riviera…), Canadian Rossif Sutherland (Possessor, The Middle Man…) and young French Morgan Giraudet.
Esther is back! After orchestrating a brilliant break-out out of a psychiatric facility, Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) goes to America and pretends to be the lost daughter of a wealthy family. But, with a mother ready to do everything she can to protect her family, her scheme will take an unexpected turn. There is a lot more to discover about Esther…
