If during the winter 2018/2019, Le Royal Monceaulooked like an ice-floe thanks to the temporary terrace, this year, the Parisian palace looks like a funfair.
As a matter of fact, for Christmas 2019 – and even after since Le Royal Monceau temporary winter terrace is on from November 21, 2019 to mid-February 2020 – the hotel patio is turned into a funfair.
And the magic happens from the hotel façade, generously filled with lights, as well as the lobby with two bumper cars welcoming us, before the majestic Christmas tree displaying the colors of the funfair.
In a magical and enchanting setting including a Ferris wheel in the middle of the pond, reindeers and snow, the hotel terrace houses a mouthwatering and warm Christmas market.
On Le Royal Monceau temporary winter terrace stand three snowcapped cabins, sparkling trees and a lit Ferris Wheel (unfortunately, we cannot board it to enjoy a ride, it’s just for the vibe).
The first cabin leads to tasting the most prestigious vintages of Champagne Veuve Clicquot. Fine bubbles served with tapas such as girolle and hazelnut bites, salmon and dill and Mont d’Or cheese.
The second – and even more mouthwatering – cabin offers apple juices and mulled wines, as well as crepes, waffles, toffee apples and traditional spit cakes revisited by Pierre Hermé.
Under the syrup holding the toffee apple hides a chocolate shell filled with orange-flavored apple sauce. A treat we ate in one bite. As for the traditional spit cake revisited by Pierre Hermé, it's based on vanilla-flavored croissant dough and is inspired by what we can find on Austrian Christmas markets.
Last but not least, the last cabin is Le Royal Monceau’s delicatessen providing the unmissable Holiday pastries by Pierre Hermé including the Bûche Agapé, shaped like a Ferris Wheel or the Mogador gingerbread. As well as chocolates, champagne and so on.
We're enchanted by this winter terrace / funfair / Christmas Market…
