Things to Do in Paris with the Kids On a Rainy Day

On a day off with the kids, it’s always nice to get them out of the house, but the weather these days can be unpredictable. When it’s grey or rainy, the question is how to keep those little rascals occupied! But don’t panic, you’re in Paris and luckily the city is overflowing with activities to entertain kids. Here at Sortiraparis, we’ve come up with some ideas that will make you forget the bad weather until the sun comes out again.

And just like that, a holiday weekend or week of vacation can be ruined by rain in the weather forecast. You might have to forget the gardens, Disneyland Paris or other outdoor activities, but luckily the city has a ton of indoor activities and ways to have fun even without the sun! 

Here's a list of our top picks for things to do on a rainy day with the little ones. Take a look and you’ll find that kids can have just as much fun in Paris while staying indoors!

  • Playmobil Funpark
    The Playmobil Funpark is an indoor park for small children. It’s a park where kids can play all year long, in any weather! All of the Playmbobil spaces and worlds appreciated by kids are there to enjoy. This isn’t an amusement park, but simply a huge space full of games where kids can use their creativity and curiosity to invent new games and activities. And good news, the park is open during school vacation!

    The Paris “Muséum” not only has its “Gallerie de l’Évolution,” a gold mine of fun for kids that love learning about animals, but also a gallery entirely dedicated to children. It’s called the Galerie des Enfants, and it’s a place for kids to gain awareness about the environment and biodiversity while having fun! 4 playful spaces are open for kids to interact and learn about their planet.

  • Aquaboulevard
    It’s the waterpark of all waterparks in the Paris area, and since it’s indoors, the water and the air inside are the perfect temperature all year long. No matter how restless the kids are, they’ll never get bored at this park filled with wave machines, giant slides, bubble baths and waterfalls. We’re sure the kids will take to Aquaboulevard like ducks to water!

    The largest starfish are coming to the Sea Life Paris Aquarium. Come see these surprising seacreatures in the Seastars exhibitions, visible until December 31st, 2016.

    Located about 25 miles from Paris, the Serre aux Papillons offers visitors a unique experience. What could be more fascinating then evolving in a tropical garden surrounded by hundreds of whimsical butterflies fluttering around?     The Cité des Sciences science museum is chock full of fun for both kids and grown-ups, and a great option for when it’s rainy out. Between the films in the Géode, the permanent exhibitions and the “Cité des enfants” kids area, you won’t be short on things to do! We particularly recommend :

      Within the Cité des Sciences, there are two permanent exhibitions for children, one for ages 2-7 and another for ages 5-12. Interactive games experiments and fun games await!

      The Cité des Sciences looks back on the life of Charles Darwin in an exhibition open from December 15th, 2015 to July 31st, 2016. Darwin was a naturalist and father to the theory of evolution that made way for the scientific and cultural revolutions of today. Now is the perfect time to explore his word and learn about his life!
    • Mental désordre, l'expo à la Cité des SciencesMental Désordre Exhibition
      The Cité des Sciences is offering new insight on mental disorders with with new exhibition titled “Mental Désordre,” showing from April 5th to August 28th, 2016. The exhibition offers visitors a window into understanding mental health problems like phobia, OCD and depression.

  • “Magicien d’Os” Exhibition at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle
    The “Magicien d’Os” exhibition at the Muséum  National d’Histoire Naturelle highlights animal sculpture throughout its comparative anatomy galleries.  Among hte collections, 12 sculptures by Quentin Garel will also be featured. Open from March 16th to September 12th, 2016.
  • New Circuit in the National Natural History Museum (Muséum national d’Histoire Naturelle)

    The Musée en Herbe kids’ museum has left rue Hérolde and is now in the Louvre district. The opening exhibition in the new location will feature great masterpieces from major artists, brought accessible to children and cartoon fans with the help of Philippe Geluck’s famous cartoon cat, for an exhibition titled “L’art et le chat,” the “Art and the Cat.” Showing from February 11th, 2016 to January 5th, 2017.
  • The Musée Grevin
    Yes, kids can enjoy the Musée Grevin too! Come see the latest exhibitions, including Matt Pokora, the Petit Prince and Titeuf, Lara Croft and Spiderman. Kids will love the tours with guides in themed costumes, or the workshops on how to make a wax statue!
  • Vacances d'hiver : Capitaine futur s'installe à la Gaité LyriqueCaptain Future at the Gaité Lyrique
    The Gaité Lyrique offers an entire program for kids all year long, aiming to expose them to art. Created specially for children, the activities look ahead to the future using digital and contemporary technologies to pique the interest and curiosity of young visitors.
  • Philharmonie de Paris
    The Philharmonie de Paris has a variety of activities aimed at children. Early learning activities, concerts and exhibitions are on the program, for families wanting to give their children an introduction to music.  

Films and Movie Theaters:

  • Pousse Pousse, Free Movie Theater for Children at the Jardin des Plantes
    The Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (Natural History Museum) has a new film event for small children! One Saturday each month, kids ages 2-5 can see Pousse Pousse, a movie theater showing on biodiversity and exploring nature. And good news, it’s free!
  • MK2 Bout’chou
    The MK2 Cinemas group are continuing their “Bout’chou” film sessions for young kids. These showings are specially created for children ages 3-5, with softer lighting and a lower sound volume for a modest  4-euro price for the whole family.
  • MK2 Junior
    These MK2 Cinema theater film showings are for children ages 5 and up, for only 4 euros for the whole family!
  • Cinekids at the Forum des Images
    If you’re a parent that loves film or if you’re looking for something to do with the kids this afternoon, here is an idea: every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at the Forum des Images, it’s “Après-midi des enfants,” or Children’s Afternoons. These events will include a film, a debate and snacks for kids from 18 months to 7 years old.
  • Cine Kids at Publicis Cinema
    Towards the end of the Champs Elysées,  Publicis Cinemas is putting on a Cine Kids for one Sunday of every month, where families can  rediscover the Disney Heritage film collection.

    Dommage que l'article ne donne pas d'idées pour les tous petits (de 12 mois à 23 mois) ;(
    La plupart des lieux s'adressent à plus de 2ans
