In the heart of Paris's 3rd arrondissement , in his Marais boutique, Christophe Louie is once again offering panettone ice cream this summer. Renowned for his soft panettones, he has now transposed his Italian specialty into an ice-cream version, available throughout the summer season. Alongside this signature recipe, there's also a vanilla ice cream, as well as a pistachioice cream for ice cream fans, with new flavors planned throughout the summer.
The idea was born of a simple trial. Originally, Christophe Louie wanted to use panettone-infused milk to make a cappuccino. But the flavor proved so interesting that he and his team decided to turn it into an ice cream. It was a lovely, almost accidental find, and the result is today's artisan panettone ice cream, with its creamy texture and sweet, fragrant flavors. It features the key elements of his brioche: infused milk, pieces ofcandied orange, crunchy almonds on the pieces of homemade panettone that adorn the entire ice cream. We'd like to see even more ingredients in the ice cream, like raisins and candied fruit, but hopefully the message gets through.
You'll have to go to 12 rue Dupetit-Thouars to discover this creation in Christophe Louie's boutique. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30am to 7.30pm, and Sunday from 10am to 4.30pm, it offers this original ice cream for €8.50, in tubs or cones. You can also enjoy pastries such as strawberry tart, panettone, madeleines and other homemade sweets. Once you've got your cornet in hand, we suggest you cross the street to the Square du Temple, just opposite, an ideal place to enjoy this sweet treat in the shade of the trees.
How about an unusual ice cream for a change?
