BMK launches DKR, a restaurant devoted to Afro street food in Paris’s 11th arrondissement. A new venue that puts African and Afro-descendant cuisines in the spotlight, through a street-food lens.

A new address dedicated to the Afro street food is launching in Paris! DKR opens its doors in the 11th arrondissement, just steps from Bastille, led by the Djikine brothers and the BMK group, already behind the BMK Paris-Bamako restaurants opened in 2017 and BMK Folie-Bamako inaugurated in 2020.

With DKR, the group continues its work around African cuisines and afro-descendant flavors, framed by a modern, urban sensibility that is both rooted in its era and faithful to the continent’s tastes. West Africa, and Dakar in particular, form the backbone of the menu for this new establishment, enriched by influences from other regions of the continent as well as the Antilles, a reflection of diasporic cultures.

This time, the new address from the Djikine brothers shifts the spotlight more onto street food, crafted in collaboration with chef Diadié Diombana who reimagines several iconic specialties. Among the starters, kéléwélés (spicy Ghanaian plantains) or the pikliz, a lively Caribbean salad. On the mains, the yassa sénégalais is offered in a mango-infused version, available as a traditional plate or a veggie grilled cheese sandwich.

The must-try mafé, for its part, is prepared with a signature spice blend. Other lesser-known recipes, less common in Paris, are also highlighted, such as Nigerian jollof rice, Kenyan kuku paka, or widjila, a dish from northern Mali reimagined as a brioche sandwich with fried chicken. For dessert, specialties like Senegalese ngalakh made with millet and monkey bread round out the offering!
