Originally located in the 9th arrondissement, then in a small street in the capital's 17th arrondissement, just a stone's throw from the famous " Svenska kyrkan ", Agneta, a native Swede, recently decided to move her Affären. From now on, this wonderful little piece of Sweden in the heart of Paris is located on rue de Saussure, near the Pont Cardinet.
Well-known to Swedish and Scandinavian expatriates in Paris, this boutique is well worth a visit. And it's only natural that we should be greeted with a " välkommen ". Inside, the delicatessen is beautifully decorated, not to say Swedish-style, with local products (cranberry jam, herring marinated in onions, Noblesse cookies, cod roe spread, Swedish beer...), as well as tableware and decorative items.

We're soon drawn in by the tantalizing smell of spices. Our eyes then come face to face with kanelbullar, traditional Swedish pastries. Homemade every day in the basement of the grocery store, these succulent cinnamon buns are very popular with customers. It has to be said that the Swedes don't mess around with the art of the coffee break, the famous " fika ". It's a bit like our aperitif in France. It's a social institution in the land of the Dalarna horse. In Sweden, it's customary to gather around a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy pastries such as kanelbulle.
To diversify its range, Affären also offers other delicious brioches: with blueberry and vanilla cream, simply with sugar, or with cardamom- our favourites!

And if you're planning to visitAffären in the middle of February, then you're likely to come across another pastry, the unmissable semla, or semlor in the plural. This excellent cardamom-flavored brioche, filled with marzipan and whipped cream, is only eaten during Mardi Gras.
Back then, in Sweden, those who dared to sell this specialty before or after the official date were even fined. So much for Swedish traditions. So, if you'd like to try these delicious semlor, head to Affären now, before it's too late. And don't forget to say " tack " when you leave!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
