In Paris, it's possible to literally tour the world of gastronomy through new restaurants from the four corners of the globe. However, some cuisines are still unknown to gourmet globetrotters. But here's a concept that's poised to become one of the standard-bearers for a country that's still under-represented among the capital's best addresses: Jamaica.

Calling all lovers of street-food, aficionados of spicy flavors and culinary travelers, we're off to the 10th arrondissement of Paris, a stone's throw from canal Saint-Martin, to push open the doors of Oh My Jerk, a spot with a strong identity, designed to introduce us to Jamaican Jerk. But what exactly is Oh My Jerk?

Jerk is a Jamaican culinary method which involves first flavoring meat and fish in a spice marinade, then smoking them with chili wood. An ancestral method, dating back over 2000 years, it's now a must when it comes to Jamaican cuisine. However, this technique varies, and jerk can be smoked over charcoal, for example. In this restaurant, you'll find a Jerk Can made to measure with pebbles.

Oh My Jerk is dedicated to Jerk Chicken or veggie, available in flat, burger, roll or ciabatta sandwich versions. You'll also find finger foods that could well become your guilty pleasure, such as chicken popcorn, grilled corn or patties, Jamaican friands that might remind you of Latin American empanadas. However, this specialty has a lighter dough, generously filled with spice-marinated shredded chicken.

And rum lovers will be delighted to find cocktails made with this essential spirit, as well as a selection of arranged rums. And when it comes to soft drinks, you won't feel left out: exotic lemonades, maté and iced teas are also on offer. In fact, one of Jerk's strong points is its take-away service, which means you can enjoy a Jamaican picnic along the Canal Saint-Martin in fine weather. How original is that?

For the main course, Jerk Chicken is a must with its unique flavor and juicy, melt-in-the-mouth texture, but the vegetarian alternative based on oyster mushrooms and prepared in the same way is also a pleasant surprise that has nothing to envy the chicken version. On the side, you can opt for potatoes or a delicious pan-fried vegetable dish, but to enjoy jerk in the proper way, you'll have to turn to rice with red beans and coconut oil, whose sweet bitterness balances out the jerk's deliciousness.

Three sauces are available: the "classic jerk", reminiscent of a barbecue sauce with more herbaceous accents; the spicy version, which won't disappoint chilli lovers; and finally, the Aïoli version, which is milder but no less tasty. You'll also appreciate the value for money offered by this address, with dishes priced at €13 with accompaniments.

If you still have room for dessert, don't miss our homemade coconut sorbet, which is so faithful to the natural flavors of this exotic fruit that it literally gives you the sensation of savoring frosted coconut milk. The texture is creamy and the sugar well dosed, so that this sweet treat is both delicious and light.
