One, two, three, four and now five restaurants in Paris: chef Manoj Sharma is definitely one of the most prolific chefs of the moment. Born in India, trained in London, arrived in Paris with a first restaurant (Desi Road), the Indian chef has succeeded, over the years, in unveiling his vision of Indian cuisine(Jugaad, Sharma Ji, Sir Winston) and elsewhere(Seoul Mama with his wife).
For the second time - after Sharma Ji - Manoj Sharma has set up shop in Paris's 15th arrondissement, with his new brasserie named Amanie. A brasserie du monde, open from morning to evening , non-stop, from breakfast to dinner, including lunch, aperitifs and brunch on weekends. A place for late lunch or early dinner, in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
The colorful decor is by Talissa Bachelot and Alice Calemard of Studio Adjamée. The two women imagined a two-storey restaurant, with a ground-floor space - part of which is open to the public - that takes up the codes of the Parisian brasserie (moldings, leather furniture, brass sconces and quilted mirrors), topped with more exotic touches (mosaic, rattan fixtures, solid wood bar and warm colors).
Upstairs, the mood is one of travel, with lush vegetation and large bay windows.
Amanie is a project open to the world. It includes influences from different regions of the Mediterranean, and even from the other side of the planet. These are flavors I've picked up on my travels, which I'd like to share with you with elegance and refinement," explains Manoj Sharma.
Amanie 's menu is inspired by different culinary cultures, from Morocco to Syria, Iran, Greece, India and Azerbaijan, with spices and seasonings from all over the world finding their way into recipes from elsewhere... as well as French recipes.
While the fact that the restaurant is much less rooted in India than Manoj Sharma's previous addresses, and that there is no real link between the different recipes on the menu (apart from the chef's love for these particular dishes!) may be disconcerting to some, the address does, on the other hand, make sure to satisfy every craving, from any country.
You'll find pea and mint arancini (8.50€) topped with harissa and pomegranate molasses, masala cheese rolls (9.50€) with an invigorating mango-mint sauce, grilled cheese with comté AOP, mimolette and cheddar topped with a dollop of zaatar (16€), and spice-marinated French pork ribs (24.50€) escorted by a fattouche salad.
As forthe Amanie platter, it promises to be one of the place's must-tries, since for a more than fair price (€19.50), it allows diners to share and taste all the starters on the menu, very representative of Manoj Sharma's cuisine, all in generous proportions. On the silver tray are soft pita breads to dip in muhammara, curried hummus, eggplant caviar...
The lunch menu is also reasonably priced, with a starter/main course or main course/dessert option at €19.50, and a children's menu at €12.50 including a main course, dessert and drink.
Creative cocktails , mocktails (€9.50) and glasses of organic wine accompany chef Sharma's cuisine, like the Mexico Fujian cocktail (mezcal, chipotle pepper liqueur, passion fruit syrup, fresh lemon juice, tomato juice, lapsang souchong tea foam, fresh coriander ; 12.50) and the piña colada-like Exotic Punch cocktail (coconut rum, passion fruit liqueur, house curry syrup, fresh lemon juice, pineapple juice, fresh tarragon; 12.50).
