The Shangri-La Paris has unveiled Les Salons du Prince, an intimate restaurant tucked away within its historic salons on Avenue d'Iéna, listed as Monuments Historiques. With its elegant Belle Époque décor and a menu that balances timeless classics with rare, exceptional ingredients, we checked it out—and here’s everything you need to know.

Exciting changes are underway at the restaurants of Shangri-La Paris. This elegant palace in the 16th arrondissement, once the residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte, is opening a new intimate dining spot: Les Salons du Prince. Located on avenue d'Iéna within the historic salons of the hotel, which are designated as Monuments Historiques, this new venue draws inspiration from the aristocratic salons of Paris during the Belle Époque. It’s tailored for those wishing to take a pause from the hustle and bustle of Paris life, whether for a meal, a glass of wine, or a sweet moment of relaxation.

What is the decor like at the Salons du Prince?

As soon as you step inside, the decor sets the tone. Wood paneling, tapestries, and 19th-century paintings create an ambiance that's somewhere between an aristocratic lounge and a Parisian literary salon. Plush armchairs, embroidered white tablecloths, and floral china enhance the warm, inviting atmosphere. The soft, golden glow of chandeliers completes the scene. In the evening, fireplaces crackle gently, a pianist takes his place, and the mood shifts to something intimate and almost clandestine. It's clear that this spot isn’t here to show off but to invite lingering. If you're drawn to the charm of old Paris, this is the place for you.

What’s on the menu at the Salons du Prince?

The menu evolves seamlessly from morning to night, and this is precisely one of the venue's strengths. The day begins with a breakfast featuring fresh pastries and a taste of Parisian art de vivre. Whether for lunch or dinner, the kitchen adheres to the esteemed French gastronomic tradition, creatively reinterpreted with a delicate touch. Central to the menu are the caviars from Maison Nordique, offered in tasting servings of Baeri, Osciètre Impérial, and Beluga, served with traditional blinis and garnishes.

Bold and luxurious, this concept is also given an original twist with caviar nuggets (15g, €49) designed for sharing—an unexpected yet surprisingly successful idea. The combination of crispy texture and rich caviar creates a taste experience that’s both indulgent and glamorous.

We also greatly enjoyed the tuna tartare, with avocado and a Kalamansi lemon vinaigrette—well-balanced and punchy on the palate. The lobster roll, featuring lobster, tarragon, lemon, and pickled onions, was perfectly toasted and tender, with a tangy garnish that added a lively kick to the dish.

On the seafood front, the steamed sea bass fillet served with a milk ribot sauce, salmon roe, and citrus rice makes for a beautiful, refined dish that's both crisp and delicate. However, we found the linguine with bottarga a bit less impressive, slightly overcooked when we visited.

Are Timothy Lam's desserts worth the trip?

The pastries crafted by chef Timothy Lam are yet another reason to linger. We indulged in a lemon infused with Thai basil, both refreshing and refined, along with a truly addictive Paris-Brest. In the afternoon, tea time slows down comfortably, featuring a selection of Shangri-La teas and the pastry chef's creative delights. A delightful way to extend the moment without rushing.

The Salons du Prince are open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., located at 10 Avenue d'Iéna, in the 16th arrondissement. It's just a short walk from Iéna metro station and close to the Trocadéro. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for evening dining. To make a booking, call the restaurant at +33 6 61 86 56 86 or email restaurants.slpr@shangri-la.com.

Our opinion: A fantastic spot for those looking to escape the everyday time stands still without necessarily diving into a gourmet dinner. The ambiance is a significant part of the charm, and the menu strikes a clever balance between hearty generosity and refined elegance. A few tweaks to perfect the pasta cooking, but overall, it’s a very promising experience.

Who is Les Salons du Prince made for? For enthusiasts of charming hotel restaurants eager to discover new Parisian dining spots, couples seeking a refined escape, and anyone looking to indulge in an intimate tea time in a luxurious setting. On the other hand, it’s not tailored for hurried diners who feel out of place in a palace-like ambiance. The prices reflect the establishment’s upscale nature, but be prepared for a hefty bill — especially if caviar is tempting you. Here, the goal is to savor the moment, not rush through a meal.
