Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opéra unveils a brand-new restaurant with a lovely setting: Rivages and its cuisine with Mediterranean twists by Denis Rippa.

After two years of renovationsSofitel Le Scribe Paris Opéra – built in 1861 – unveils a new look throughout the floors and the 201 bedrooms, as well as on the ground floor, within the latest Rivages restaurant, driven by new director Pierre-Alexandre Le Bihan.

Once inside the Rivages restaurant, discover a large glassed door bathing the main room in daylight, as well as a surprising pink tree encased like the rose from Beauty and the Beast; lovely and soft atmosphere.

The restaurant’s menu was entrusted to chef Denis Rippa, the former chef of hôtel Matignon, who signs a Mediterranean-inspired menu giving pride of place to seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as tasty seafood such as fishes and crustaceans.

When we came for lunch, we had the fresh tuna tagliata, tomato bitter-sweet sauce and baked ricotta (€22), white asparagus, wild shrimp Bolognese (€22), or the vitello tonnato con sardine, veal, capers, tomatoes and fresh herbs (€20).

Of course, pair these dishes with a glass of wine from France, Italy or Greece or some creation cocktail like the Pomme d’Amour cocktail (Vodka Belvedere, Manzana, Mirabelle plum, Absinthe and ginger ale; €22), or the Bella Ciao cocktail (Cognac Hennessy, Amaretto, expresso, cherry bitter, sugar syrup; €22).

As for us we got the mocktail version with the Amore Mio (blend of spices, tomato juice, carrot, cucumber and yellow lemon; €15), and the Brigitte & Serge (Basil, bergamot, ginger, lemongrass, ginger ale; €15), very refreshing. Furthermore, cocktails and mocktails are served at the Bar du Scribe counter at any time of the day, whilst the Café Scribe serves tea, coffee and pastries as well as travel cakes by Hugues Pouget – the pastry chef from Maison Hugo & Victor.

Before moving on to this Italian meringue and gariguette strawberries pavlova style (€14) for dessert, let us enjoy some fleshy poultry breast and roasted common bobtails, ink juice and potatoes (€34), grilled squid, olivette tomatoes with rosemary and chickpea (€36) – a tad stingy – and lamb piccatinas, honey and lemon, green vegetables caramelized with Ligurienne (€35).

A rather expensive venue but the setting is lovely.
