In Paris, facemasks are now mandatory in some outdoor public places. Mayor Anne Hidalgo urged the prefecture that confirmed the implementation of the measure this Tuesday August 4, 2020 to fight against the coronavirus epidemic.

From July 31, 2020 prefects can impose facemasks outside, within the cities they administer. Therefore, as the coronavirus epidemic is spreading more and more in France, more and more cities make facemasks mandatory. And the Île-de-France is no exception, especially in Val d’Oise where cities now make facemasks mandatory outside.

But what about Paris? The French capital that is part of the most hit cities in the country during the first wave has been seeing since mid-July its incidence rate exceeds the vigilance threshold. Since lockdown has been lifted, masks are mandatory in public transit and many places such as museums and shopping malls. They imposed it as soon as their reopened. And since July 20, facemasks are mandatory in all closed public places in France.

Tweet reads: “A report from the ARS IDF on the epidemiologic situation ordered by the police prefect has been handed today. Face covering will be mandatory in some highly frequented outdoor public places in the capital”.

Could this measure reach outdoor places? This is what Paris mayor wishes. Anne Hidalgo requested so from the police prefecture and they have handed their final decision. The measure has been validated this Tuesday August 4, 2020 following a report from the Agence Régionale de Santé d’Ile-de-France. The list of new areas where face coverings are now mandatory in Paris will be unveiled very soon in two steps.

The first one will announce the main places in Paris face coverings will be mandatory in. And it could be imposed in some strategical places such as open-air markets, the Seine riverbanks and canal, as well as around railway stations. And then, arrondissement town halls will put up a second list naming highly frequented streets facemasks are mandatory in.
