As the Horizon - Material Experiences exhibition prepares to close, the Jardin des Métiers d’Art et du Design in Sèvres presents one final chance to immerse yourself in a creative world where natural materials come to life through the craftsmanship of contemporary artisans and designers.
Since opening this fall, the exhibition curated by designer Véronique Maire offers a sensorial and contemplative journey through various materials: wood, clay, linen, leather, natural pigments, and fibers derived from cutting-edge research. Designed as a tactile exploration, it encourages visitors to reflect on how raw materials are transformed and to explore the sources of inspiration that fuel contemporary creation. The exhibit also highlights the diverse backgrounds of the artists showcased in the JAD workshops.
Designed as an open and accessible journey, the exhibition encourages visitors of all ages to take their time observing, questioning, and engaging their senses. Playful light displays, textures, and color variations punctuate the tour, sparking curiosity and offering a truly immersive experience that excites both the senses and the imagination. Here, materials become a shared discovery ground, perfect for exchange and exploration as a family.
Throughout the visit, a guide is available in the gallery to assist visitors, answer questions, and provide insights into the artworks and the creators’ processes. Sensory sheets are also provided to extend the experience—allowing visitors to handle samples of the displayed materials, learn about the techniques involved, and understand the manufacturing processes behind each piece. This educational and sensitive approach promotes understanding and dialogue, regardless of age.
Finally, to mark the closing days of the exhibition, a special interactive activity session will be offered to families on Sunday at 3 p.m.. Free of charge and open to children accompanied by an adult, this event invites participants to discover the artworks of the JAD through fun mini-games and observation activities—providing a friendly, engaging way to revisit or explore the exhibition before it closes.
As the closure approaches, this experience gains a particular significance: the chance to discover or rediscover this delicate world before the pieces are stored away behind the scenes at the JAD workshops.
