In Paris and the Île-de-France region, urban farms and community gardens are winning over city dwellers hungry for nature, sharing, and authentic experiences. On the capital’s rooftops, around a repurposed vacant lot, or in a hidden garden tucked between two buildings, these green spaces offer a genuine bucolic interlude. The lineup includes gardening workshops, hands-on learning, family moments, and an introduction to urban farming.

For several years now, cultivating the land has made a big comeback in the heart of the city. In Paris and across the Île-de-France, urban farms, community gardens and other participatory allotments are enjoying a real surge of interest. These hybrid spaces respond to a growing desire to slow down, to consume more consciously and to reconnect with nature without leaving the urban environment.

In the heart of lively neighbourhoods or perched on the rooftops of the capital, these green spaces enchant with their tranquil, transportive atmosphere. Behind a discreet façade, atop a building or in an old industrial wasteland, tomatoes, aromatic herbs, edible flowers and small urban orchards are now thriving.

Many of these Île-de-France urban farms offer gardening workshops, composting introductions, educational tours, or even participatory harvests. The children discover the seasonal cycle, learn to plant, water and harvest, while adults rediscover the simple pleasure of getting their hands dirty.

Gathering spaces for conviviality and sharing, people come here to participate in a workshop, have a coffee amid the crops, shop for tasty finds at the local market, or simply enjoy a moment of calm in an unconventional green setting. Some urban farms perched on Parisian rooftops even reveal spectacular panoramas of the capital’s monuments!
