In the heart of the Pigalle district, the restaurant Rencontre marries gastronomy and art through ephemeral residencies of talented young chefs, invited to cook small plates in connection with the works of art exhibited on the walls of the address. A highly creative place imagined by restaurateur Lucas Zundel, where culinary and visual works flourish and where beauty and goodness combine.
Each season, in this venue designed by Akira Studio, the restaurant highlights an original collaboration between a resident chef and an artist, unveiling a menu inspired by the works on display. Open for lunch Wednesday to Friday and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, Rencontre features a 5-course tasting menu (75€), with the option of wine pairings (40€) andtea pairings (20€).
For the first three months of the Rencontre restaurant's opening, until October 2025, chef Federico Iwakawa is pulling out all the stops. Born in Argentina to a mother of Italian-Argentine origin and a Japanese father, the chef has worked at Polissons as assistant chef, at Pagaille as second de cuisine and is also involved in the Refettorio at the Madeleine hostel.
On the walls, it'sartist Elsa Lebaratoux who wipes the slate clean, with a series of photographs to which the chef gives body with a multitude of travel ingredients - corn, wakame, kombu, nori, jalapeño pepper, shizo, lacto-fermentations and miso. It's a lovely way of putting stories into dialogue.
