Located for more than 20 years just steps from the Jardin du Luxembourg, La Ferrandaise serves a terroir-focused cuisine faithful to Auvergne. A generous, no-frills restaurant that boasts a sunny terrace for warm, sunny days.

La Ferrandaise is among Parisian addresses that stand the test of time, resisting fleeting trends. In the 6th arrondissement, this Auvergne-born restaurant serves a traditional cuisine, anchored in quality produce and classic recipes, with a special emphasis on top-tier producers and the seasons.

Just a few steps from the Jardin du Luxembourg, this spot pays homage to Auvergne for over 20 years, through a menu built around terroir products largely sourced from organic producers bio in the Puy-de-Dôme, including an enticing selection of farmhouse cheeses (€15). The restaurant’s name itself, borrowed from a local cattle breed, already signals the tone.

The setting follows the same idea: banquettes, wood, soft lighting and a beautiful terrace to soak up the sun. The vibe evokes a traditional bistro, without any attempt to chase modern trends. In the basement, a vaulted cellar full of character offers spaces for privatizations and reinforces the venue’s distinctive feel. Could these be remnants of the Philippe Auguste wall?

On the plate, La Ferrandaise leans on proven recipes that don’t aim to dazzle but to reassure with quality and generosity. The so-called “grandmother’s” dishes take center stage here: veal shank, head of veal with gribiche sauce, kidneys, sweetbreads, or pressed oxtail. French and Auvergne classics prepared with respect.

Some dishes are practically pillars for regulars, such as the veal blanquette (26€) made from cattle raised in central France, the foie gras, the house terrine (10€) and the pork rillettes (8€), proof of a refined charcuterie craft.

The pâté en croûte (14€), sampled during our visit, stands out for its well-crafted dough and a balanced blend of meats that stays light, making it ideal for a warm spring day. The rest of the menu follows suit, such as these escargots de Bourgogne prepared in-house (12€ for six) or the filet de bœuf sauce poivre of exceptional tenderness (34€) accompanied by a traditional gratin forézien.

At the end of the meal, the desserts stay in the classic realm, between floating island (€10) light and a pear tarte tatin slice (€13) hefty. And to raise a glass to whomever you please, trust Gilles, the owner, who will easily guide you through his fine selection of wines from small and large producers of the French wine region!
