Jean-Baptiste Ascione opens Le Petit Brochant with his partner Mendel Uzzan, in the heart of the Batignolles. This new brasserie in the 17th arrondissement offers French cuisine, pairing roguish classics with ingredients treated with care and generous cuts to share.

A new chapter opens for Jean-Baptiste Ascione. After Petit Gris and Faby, two venues that are now closed, the chef is setting up shop in the Batignolles with Le Petit Brochant, a new address conceived with his partner Mendel Uzzan. With Le Petit Brochant, the chef who appeared on Top Chef at just 21 returns to the hallmarks of the French brasserie.

Le Petit Brochant immediately asserts itself as a true neighborhood brasserie. More than 120 seats, a terrace, a generously sized dining room, and a decor by Jean-Vianney Dewailly from the Matériaux Authentiques studio: here, no disposable trends, but wood paneling, green marble, hanging chandeliers, and a whole collection of objects, tableware, and dishes picked out by Jean-Baptiste Ascione and Mendel Uzzan themselves. The idea is also to bring a bit of theater to the room, with some fine pieces presented and then carved in front of diners.

On the plate, Jean-Baptiste Ascione relishes playing with a cheeky, roguish register. The aperitif can kick off with a house-made radish and butter and Cantabrian anchovies aged to perfection, before drifting toward Provençal-style escargots or a crispy head of veal with gribiche sauce. As for the cellar, around 65 references accompany it all.

For what’s next, the menu travels between classics and more personal plates: line-caught maigre aged in beurre blanc and miso, large wild Tiger prawns grilled, rib-eye carpaccio aged in brown butter, or a salad of artichokes with hazelnuts and Ossau-Iraty. The club, stuffed with farm-fresh poultry, organic eggs and a subtly smoky mayonnaise, is eaten more informally, and when the table grows, it’s all about the big sharing plates!

For dessert, the house sticks to trusted classics, featuring a strawberry pavlova with red shiso, a house-made rum baba, a praline chocolate mousse served with a spoon, and red berries with mascarpone cream. Le Petit Brochant aims to be enjoyed du matin jusqu’au soir : the brasserie is open 7 days a week, in continuous service from noon to midnight, with a breakfast offering announced to complete the picture soon!
