In 2020, the Stade de France was to reconnect with opera. The major arena in Saint-Denis was to welcome on September 19, 2020, a new version of “Carmen” by Georges Bizet starring Roberto Alagna and Béatrice Uria-Monzon. But, because of the coronavirus epidemic, the show is postponed to June 18, 2022.
The exceptional performance of the "Carmenopera initially planned on Saturday September 19, 2020 at the Stade de France is postponed to Saturday June 18, 2022 with the same cast, because of the coronavirus epidemic currently infection France and the rest of the world. Georges Bizet's opera fans will have to be very patient.
Tickets remain valid for the new date. They can be repaid as well until September 30, 2020.

The Stade de France hasn’t scheduled opera in years. In 2022, the Stade will reconnect with this genre and plans on Saturday June 18, 2022 a new version of “Carmen” produced by Charles Roubaud and starring Roberto Alagna, Béatrice Uria-Monzon and Aleksandra Kurzak.

Written in 1875 by Georges Bizet – based on Prosper Mérimée’s short story – “Carmencomic opera met success only after the composer passed away.

The Stade de France has already housed a version of “Carmen” back in 2004. 17 years later, it’s producer Charles Roubaud (who already created “Nabucco” in 2008 and “Aïda” in 2010 at the Stade) who will offer his own version of “Carmen”. A version with a 60-m wide stage (and not 360° as for some previous operas performed at the Stade), but mostly “festive for a large audience” and “very choreographed like a musical” the producer has said.

Don José will be played by tenor Roberto Alagna and Carmen by opera singer Béatrice Uria-Monzon. As for Aleksandra Kurzak, she’ll be Micaëla.
Roberto Alagna and Béatrice Uria-Monzon often sang together for both these roles. Since 1993 and her first performance as Carmen, the mezzo soprano has played the part over 400 times. She says that the Stade de France will be her last as the character.

On stage, they won’t be alone. They’ll be accompanied by the Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France conducted by Giorgio Croci, the Choeur Unikanti and the Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine. All in all, about 300 artists will be on stage for “Carmen”. They’ll perform in a décor created by Emmanuelle Favre (who stage Mylène Farmer’s residency “Désobéissance” at Paris La Défense Arena this past June) said to be genius and colorful with video clips screened on LED screens. As for lights, we’ll owe them to Jacques Rouveyrollis.

The Stade de France will have a setting likely to welcome about 60,000 viewers. The price list will offer a large range of prices, including 9 rates, starting from €29 to make this French opera everyone knows affordable to many.
