First and foremost, Villa Mikuna is a historic building set 2 rue Frochot. First called Shangai, it used to be a house of ill repute in the 30’s. The place then has been turned into a Corsican game circle, called the Cercle Central, before being transformed into a reception venue, the Villa Frochot. And this Fall 2021, the place changes again into a Peruvian restaurant, Villa Mikuna.
Villa Mikuna’s atmosphere and decoration remind us of the nighttime past of the place. Green plants rub shoulders with the peacock blue velvet bench seats. Villa Mikuna offers two different areas, a restaurant where one can admire the Art-Déco stained-glass windows, here for a very long time, and a rotunda tapas and cocktail bar with a dancefloor entertained by DJs and live South-American music bands. And because Covid is still around, the dancefloor is not open yet. For now, tables are set there so one can eat.
Villa Mikuna’s menu – served in the restaurant and the cabaret area – has been created by chef José Arias.
On the menu then, guacamole of course, and multiple ceviche recipes. The guacamole here is very slightly spicy and served with cherry tomatoes and roasted pineapple. Probably one of the best in Paris. As for hummus, at Villa Mikuna, it is made with red and white beans.
Ceviches are all very delicious. King shrimps are served with coconut and pineapple, tuna with ponzu sauce and mango, and salmon cooked Nikkei style with avocado. We cannot tell which one is the best because they were just all incredible.
But the warm dishes cooled us. If there is one dish to absolutely order at Villa Mikuna it is the ceviches.
On the menu as well, the tiradito (the Peruvian version of sashimi), plantain fritters filled with pulled veal and fish tacos. Craving for more? Grilled squid and chicken on the plancha are also served.
And what for dessert? Cheesecakes, as well as a chocolate mousse to die for.
Tempted by a new gourmet experience discovering Peruvian flavors? Head to Villa Mikuna then!
